WAC - Should We Expand the Use of Nuclear Energy in the Future?

Have you ever thought of the impact that you have on the world? Everything you do can impact climate change and the heating of the Earth, which can have other effects, such as increased risk of various natural disasters, and more. Scientists are considering to expand the use of nuclear energy in the future, but is this a good idea for the society, environment, and the world we live in? We should not increase the use of nuclear energy in the future as it is very dangerous, the waste leftover can be bad for the environment, and nuclear energy can be very expensive to build and maintain. Thus, turning to nuclear energy in the future is not a good idea because it has many negatives and can affect the world we live in. One reason that we should not expand the use of nuclear energy in the future is that it is expensive to build and maintain. According to the article titled “Waste, families left behind as Nuclear plants close,” it states “Nuclear power is expensive, especially when compared...

There are two ways that nuclear energy can be created: fission, and fusion. Fission is the most common process of creating nuclear power and happens when an atom is split into two, releasing energy in the form of heat and radiation, used to make electricity. Fusion is like the opposite of fission. Atoms are combined together, creating a new atom. Both of these processes help us power our homes, but should we increase the production of nuclear power in future? There are many positives of nuclear power. First, and most importantly, nuclear power is carbon free, meaning that it would help us slow down climate change. Some other pros include that it is a very efficient way to produce heat, at it provi...

Carbon Dioxide (4/9-4/13)

http://resources.has.concord.org/resources/climate/FlowDiagram.jpg Summary: Carbon is continuously moving through the carbon cycle. Carbon dioxide is not destroyed or recycled, meaning that it moves through reservoirs, also known as "storage spaces."  The six reservoirs are soil, the atmosphere, surface water, deep ocean, marine life, and land plants. Sinks are p laces that take in carbon dioxide. Carbon is being added through the atmosphere constantly through two different types of processes called biological and geological processes. Rocks, organisms, and materials that are burned release carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.  Carbon dioxide can affect the temperature in many ways. Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas that contributes to the greenhouse gas effect which is when gases such as carbon dioxide absorb and trap heat in the atmosphere, gradually making it warmer.
