http://www.interactive-biology.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/Genetics.jpg Summary: This week we were learning about genetics . Genetics is the study of inherited characteristics and heredity.  Link DNA DNA holds the instructions needed for a living organism to grow and live. DNA stands for deoxyribonucleic acid. The DNA alphabet is ACGT. ( Guanine,  Cytosine , Adenine and Thymine.)  The special rules by which these alphabet pieces bond together are that A only goes with T, and C only goes with G. Genes Genes are the basic units of inheritance. They   are the instruction manuals for the body. The directions for building proteins to function. Genes are made of chunks of DNA . Humans have 25,000 genes. Proteins contain these instructions for building. Genes tell the body three important things: How long the protein should be. How much protein to make. Exactly when to make it. Chromosomes A chromosome is a package for DNA. In other word...

We had to write information about that superhero, and draw it in the costume of the animal that the superpowers came from.  Summary: I learned that there is only one animal in the world that is immortal. This animal is called the immortal jellyfish. When you look in a dictionary, immortal means:  living forever; never dying or decaying.  This is not always true for the immortal jellyfish. It can always be eaten by predators, or get a disease while going back to the first stage of its life. Once the immortal jellyfish reaches a mature stage, instead o...

WAC - Is It Healthier to be a Vegetarian or an Omnivore?

There is a lot of discussion and debate about which is healthier: A vegetarian, or an omnivore? There are pros and cons about each side which makes it a hard decision. We did research in class, and after a lot of thought, I agree that omnivores are healthier than vegetarians, and have more advantages. It is good to have both in your diet because meat is good to have once in awhile, and veggies are very healthy. Meat is good because it is high in protein, nutrients, and vitamins. These are all very important factors of a meal, and are the easiest to find in meat. In the first article we read, called " Is it healthier to be a vegetarian or an omnivore?"  I learned that meat also contains vitamin B12 that mostly comes from animal origin and helps protect the brain, and nerves. Even though there are good sides to eating meat, there are also a few bad sides. According to what the third article we read, named "Should people become vegetarians?"   It said that meat inc...
