The Chloroplast (9/21-9/28)
Summary:
In class we started a project about cells. Our task was to learn about the part of the cell that we were assigned to and write a WANTED poster about it. Each table group was assigned a part of a cell. (Mitochondria, Cytoplasm, Cell Wall etc). My group got the chloroplast. We started with organizing the group roles. Then we all shared a Google document and started collecting ideas for what we were going to write about.
I learned that the chloroplast is very important because it makes food for the cell. This process is called photosynthesis. The energy from the sun hits the chloroplast and the chloroplast uses carbon dioxide and water to make the sugars that the cells can use to live. The chloroplast uses the chlorophyll during the process. Plants are green because of a pigment called chlorophyll.
Something else that I learned is that animal cells do not have the chloroplast. That is why animals are not green. This makes sense because animals can get food on their own. Plants can't catch food, and so they need to make their own food. That is why they need the chloroplast.
I learned a lot about the chloroplast from this project and am excited for next week when we are going to learn about other parts of a cell. My group's poster turned out pretty nice. I hope you agree when we present it to the rest of the class.
Excellent detail! Someone could learn many things about chloroplast from your blog post.
