Summary:

Have you ever seen a cheetah, or are you planning to ever see one? Cheetahs live mainly in grasslands and areas with bushes and trees in some parts of Africa and the middle east, but you may have trouble finding one because they are very close to extinction. Less than 10,000 cheetahs are left in the wild. This is because of loss of habitat, and less prey to eat which threatens the loss of these beautiful creatures.

The scientific name for a cheetah is Acinonyx jubatus. The family name of cheetahs is Felidae. Their lifespan can be from 10 - 12 years, depending on the different conditions of prey, habitat, and weather. They eat carnivores such as gazelles, impalas, which is a medium-sized antelope, and smaller hoofed animals in their habitat, though they can also eat rabbits, birds, and other small animals.

The cheetah is the fastest animal on land, and can run up to 60 or even 70 miles per hour, and they can gain that speed in just three seconds! This is because of the cheetahs muscular tail, which is almost like a boat rudder by keeping them going and helping guide the way.

Some adaptations of the cheetah include very good eye sight which also helps to find and catch prey. They also can camouflage from other animals because of their spotted coat, and skin. They have claws that give a lot of traction while running which helps with speed.

The average weight of a cheetah is from 77 - 143 lbs, and their length is 6-8 feet including the tail, about the size of a car. Just the tail of a cheetah can be from 2 – 2.8 ft long!

SP8: Obtain, Evaluate, and Communicate information:

I think the author of these articles communicated the information well using images, facts, comparing to other ideas and objects, and organizing the information in a way that is easy to understand and learn a lot from. I also thing they used this science and engineering practice by showing other animals that relate and are from the family of wild cats.
