Summary
This week we were learning about the nervous system. The nervous system controls everything that you do (walking, breathing, thinking, etc.) The nervous system is made out of your brain, spinal cord, and all of your nerves. In class we watched a video and learned about what the nervous system is and the different parts to it. In this blog I will be writing all about it.

The system is called the nervous system because it is made out of billions and billions of nerve cells. The nerve cells are also called neurons.  Nerves carry messages to the brain and out to all of the other parts of your body. The spinal cord works like a highway where messages from the body go to the brain and back again.  Your nerves let you feel sensations. Ex. when your foot touches cold water it sends a message to the brain that it is freezing and your brain sends a message back to jerk your foot out of it.

Your brain weighs about 3 pounds (1.4 kg.) The main parts of your brain are the cerebrum, cerebellum, thalamus, and the brain stem. The cerebrum lets you think, speak, and move around. Your cerebellum helps you with coordination and balance. I definitely use that when I am at the gym! Your thalamus carries messages. Your brain stem controls your breathing, heart beat, and digestion.

I really enjoyed the video, and I learned some interesting things about the nervous system. I have realized that the brain is really complex and I would like to learn more about the different parts. I would also like to do some projects in class about the nervous system and the brain.

Here is the video that we watched in class about the nervous system
